“Confucius Institute International Music Summer Camp” is a key cultural program of Center for the Exchange and Experience of Chinese and Foreign Music Cultures & Music Confucius Institute Office of CCOM. Since 2014, 3 “International Music Summer Camps” have been held in Beijing, Tianjin, Yunnan and Hunan, totally 105 music-major students from 8 prestigious universities of 7 countries and five continents had been invited to visit China to learn traditional Chinese instruments, experience local music and folk cultures, and hold report-back concerts at CCOM. With high professionality and extensive fusion of global musical cultures, the program has gained favorable comments and praises from home and abroad.

In 2017, CCOM will develop and upgrade the international music summer camp into the Confucius Institute “International Music Summer School”, inviting students and teachers of music majors/specialties from global Confucius Institutes to visit Beijing and receive a concentrated training on instrumental performances, singing, ensemble, historical and cultural knowledge of Chinese music from renowned CCOM musicians and young teachers. In addition, we will also hold a report-back concert, cultural workshops, exchange and visiting activities for the participants, with an eye to making them acquire the abilities to undertake high-level Chinese music presenting and teaching activities, as well as effective cultural interactions, presentations and exchanges after returning home.

Eligibilities for applicants:

  1. Students of Confucius Institutes;
  2. Non- ethnic Chinese;
  3. The applicants shall have basic skills in Chinese or Western instruments performances or singing, aged 15 or above;

Illustration on expenses:

1. The students and leading teachers’ board, lodging and other reception expenses in China will be covered by the special fund of Confucius Institute applied by the host;

2. The students’ international flight tickets, insurance and visa-application fees shall be covered by themselves; while the leading teachers’ international flight tickets, insurance and visa-application fees (according to Hanban’s relevant provisions for the summer camp program) shall be covered by the annual fund of each Confucius Institute.

Organizational procedure:

  1. The organizing committee sends the announcement to Confucius Institutes and commissions the Confucius Institutes to release the enrollment notice to local music schools, complete the application forms and send the forms back to the organizing committee.
  2. The organizing committee submits the application forms and relevant materials to the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban for examination and approval.
  3. After being approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban, the organizing committee will notify the participants to apply for visas and buy air tickets.
  4. The organizing committee releases the details and notes of the program.
  5. Commencing the summer school.
