UCT students excel at South African Final of the 18th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Student

 

On 4th May 2019, the South African Final of the 18th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Student was held in Durban. 20 contestants from the Durban University of Technology, Rhodes University, University of Cape Town, University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria and University of Stellenbosch took part in the competition. Nash Kyle and Kvevli Kristin from UCT had an exceptional performance, winning the first prize and the third prize respectively.

The Competition comprised three rounds, including written test, Mandarin speech and Chinese talent show. The theme for speech was defined as ‘One World, One Family’. In his speech, Nash Kyle elaborated his own experiences in China to share his understanding of ‘One World, One Family’. His humorous speech won warm applause from the audience. Kvevli Kristin’s speech was also excellent. In the talent show, Nash Kyle’s martial art and Kvevli Kristin’s vocal talent were well received.

Nash Kyle will represent South Africa to attend the Global Final of the 18th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition in China. He said he would cherish this great opportunity, expecting to use Mandarin as a common language to discuss how to achieve ‘One World, One Family’ with contestants from all over the world.
